False – You may hear about ‘New York cheesecake’ or about ‘Philadelphia cheesecake.’ What’s the difference? Not the origin, but the ingredients!
- 3. Cream cheese is a cheese specialty invented in Europe in the 17th century.
False – Cream cheese was accidentally invented by a farmer in New York in 1872.
- 5. Philadelphia cream cheese brand was named this way because it was invented in Philadelphia.
False – It was created in New York, but the brand was called Philadelphia.
- 7. Arnold Reuben, a restaurant owner, had cheese pie in another restaurant and copied it.
False – In 1929, a New York restaurant owner named Arnold Reuben had dinner at a friend’s house. The wife served a sort of cheese pie for dessert. Reuben loved it and began experimenting with her recipe. Soon, cheesecake was born!
